Dabangg 3 is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language action comedy film directed by Prabhu Deva and produced by Salman Khan Films, Arbaaz Khan Productions and Saffron Broadcast & Media Limited.[4] The third installment of the Dabangg franchise, it serves as prequel to Dabangg (2010) and sequel to Dabangg 2 (2012).[5] The film features Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Arbaaz reprising their respective characters with Kannada actor Sudeep as the antagonist and Saiee Manjrekar in her debut role.[6]

The story, written by Salman, is set in a fictional town in Uttar Pradesh after the events of Dabangg 2 and showcases Chulbul Pandey’s origin as a police officer, after his encounter with an old rival, Bali Singh, refreshes his memory.[7] Principal photography begun in April 2019 and shoot was completed in September 2019.[8] It was distributed by Salman Khan Films in North India, KJR Studios in Tamil Nadu and Yash Raj Films in International.[9]

Dabangg 3 was theatrically released worldwide on 20 December 2019, on the Pre-Christmas weekend.[10] It opened to mixed reviews, who appreciated performance of Khan and Sudeep, but criticised for writing, music, script and screenplay.[11] At the box office, the film’s collections were further affected by the CAA protests, making it the second lowest-grossing film in the franchise. The movie was a commercial success at the box office but not as successful as the first two since they were blockbusters.[12][13]
